Here's just a quick note on a bullet point list that appeared on (2017.Fall #4e):
- Put yourself in the place of a federal regulator overseeing a SIFI. You're ass is on the line!! What would you do to protect yourself (and the insurer of course!) Common sense would tell you to:
- Force the insurer to adhere to strict operating requirements (liquidity requirements, capital requirements, regular stress-testing to identify problems before they get too big)
- But IF (despite your best intentions) the insurer goes insolvent, you should have a resolution plan in place - this is called a living will
